    Yes - so plaster, paint, carpet then boards (base/skirting)... If the final flooring is carpet I always install the baseboards after paint and before carpet. Set baseboard 1/2" ( or thickness of baseboard) off the floor. It gives carpet layers a place to tuck the carpet once it is stretched.

    Have a trio of 30" x 80" bedroom doors to replace. Lowes has free upgrade going on right now to "Safe N Sound" on their masonite doors. Cost: $75. They also sell Milliken Millwork PA door, $130. Home Depot has Jeld-Wen's version of a solid core for $117 with their sale price. All are 6 panel/flat jamb/brushed nickel hinges/identical optioned.

Basically there is a wood or steel frame around the perimeter and the interior is filled with foam. I'd think the absence of structure would make installing a mail slot a little complicated.

Very easy, sub floor is always tongue and groove and minimum 5/8's (in our days at least) sheathing is plywood that butts together with no groove and minimum thickness for walls is 3/8's. underlay is a product to deaden sound under laminate flooring.. hope that helps.
