Edward M. Goring was born in Manchester, England, April 20, 1828, the son of John M. and Martha Heald Goring. Edward M. Goring, was only eight years of age when his parents left England; he attended the district school at Wappingers Falls, and in 1845 apprenticed to the trade of engraving to calico printing, which he followed from 1845 to 1860.
The first school in the Wappingers Central School District was the Wappingers Falls Junior High School, which was a K-12 school with students from the towns of Wappinger, Fishkill, Philipstown, Kent, East Fishkill, Lagrange, and Poughkeepsie. There are now 14 schools under the district's control: 9 primary, 2 junior high, and 3 high schools.
Downtown Wappingers Falls. The Wappingers Falls Historic District includes downtown, several adjacent residential neighborhoods, and Mesier Park & Homestead. Mesier Park has been a public park since ca. 1891, and hosts many annual events that focus around the bandstand and tree-lined paths of the park.
Around 1929, the Rockefeller family purchased the property. With the proceeds from the sale, the brothers of the New York District purchased the Massena estate at the northern section of the hamlet. They moved the novitiate there [3] and established St. Joseph's Normal Institute as a teacher training facility. The Institute closed in 1969.
One additional property in the city was formerly listed but has been removed. Two of these sites, the Adams Power Plant Transformer House and the Niagara Reservation, are further designated as National Historic Landmarks.
