CIA University (CIAU) is the primary education facility of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Founded in 2002 and located in Chantilly, Virginia , the school holds courses on various intelligence-related subjects, ranging from chemical weapons manufacturing to foreign languages.
Early in 1999, Tenet ordered the CTC to conduct a review of the CIA's operational strategy to create "a new, comprehensive plan of attack" against al-Qaeda. [citation needed] By mid-September, the result of this review, known simply as "The Plan", had been briefed to CIA operational level personnel and the NSA, the FBI, and other partners.
The report addressed the classic problem of increasing performance while reducing costs. This meant better review of the budgets of covert and clandestine activities by a Review Board, except for the most sensitive operations. It meant providing the Comptroller with enough information, even if sanitized, to do a thorough job.
The CIA is part of the United States Intelligence Community, is organized into numerous divisions. The divisions include directors, deputy directors, and offices. [3] The CIA board is made up of five distinct entitles called Directorates. [4] The CIA is overseen by the Director of Central Intelligence.
The review called the encyclopedia comprehensive, and noted it contained helpful appendices including a glossary, lists of executive staff members of the CIA, and a large bibliography and index. [11] Booklist commented in its review that the encyclopedia was a good resource to have in libraries at the academic, public, and high school levels. [10]
