The Brooks Quimby Debate Council (BQDC) is a debate society in Lewiston, Maine, primarily comprising students from Bates College.The society, known for participating in British and American Parliamentary debate styles, competes in the American Parliamentary Debate Association and the World Universities Debating Championship.
Bates College (/ b eɪ t s /) [7] is a private liberal arts college in Lewiston, Maine, United States. Anchored by the Historic Quad, the campus of Bates totals 813 acres (329 ha). It maintains 600 acres (240 ha) of nature preserve known as the "Bates-Morse Mountain" near Campbell Island and a coastal center on Atkins Bay.
This list also includes students of the affiliated Maine State Seminary, Nichols Latin School, and Cobb Divinity School. In 1915, George Colby Chase, the second president of the college, opted that the college include former students (those who did not complete the full four year course of study) as alumni in "appreciation of their loyalty". Leslie "Buck" Spinks (July 1, 1903 – March 15, 1968) was an American athlete, coach, and military officer who played football at Auburn University (then known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute), coached men's basketball and football at Bates College, and was the commandant of cadets at Marion Military Institute.

Ava Clayton Spencer was born on December 15, 1954, in Concord, North Carolina, the daughter of Ava Clark Spencer and Samuel Reid Spencer, one of four children.
