The Louisiana IceGators were a professional ice hockey team in the Southern Professional Hockey League that began play in the 2009–10 season. [1] Like the original IceGators, which played from 1995 until folding in 2005, they were based in Lafayette, Louisiana. [1] The IceGators were brought back by local businessman Danny Smith. [2]
The team holds the top four regular-season average attendance numbers in ECHL history: 11,433 in 1996-97, 11,196 in 1997-98, 9,857 in 1998-99 and 9,776 in 1995-96. [2] The IceGators also hosted the eighth-largest and nine of the 10 largest postseason crowds in ECHL history, including four capacity crowds of 11,800 in 1997. [2]
After graduating, McGarvey joined his alma mater's coaching staff for five seasons, where he was part of Ursinus' 2008 NCAA Division III Final Four team. He'd then join the Division I ranks as an assistant to Matt Langel at Colgate in 2011 and would stay on staff until 2018 when he accepted the head coaching position at a Division III institution Lycoming.
