David O'Brien (born August 3, 1963), nicknamed "OB", is an American sportscaster who is a lead play-by-play announcer on the New England Sports Network (NESN) for telecasts of the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB), and for college football and college basketball games aired on the ESPN Inc.-owned ACC Network.
O'Brien was hired as the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds on October 27, 2003, succeeding Jim Bowden. [3] He was fired by new Reds ownership on January 23, 2006. [4] He then served as a special assistant to Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin during 2007–2009. [citation needed] O'Brien earned degrees at Rollins College and Ohio University. [1]

O'Brien attended G. Holmes Braddock High School in Miami, Florida. [1] He played for the school's baseball team, and transitioned to catcher during his senior year. Unselected in the 2008 MLB draft, O'Brien chose to enroll at Bethune–Cookman University, where he played college baseball for the Bethune–Cookman Wildcats team in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
