It is the Naval Component Command of U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM). The Fourth Fleet is headquartered at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. It is responsible for U.S. Navy ships, aircraft and submarines operating in the Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans around Central and South America.
There is a new captain in charge at Naval Station Mayport. The new leader heading up Naval Station Mayport is Captain Brian Binder, who was officially sworn in during a change of command ceremony.
CNSG-SE was established on 07 November 2023, and was previously CNSS-14 since 31 July 2015 by the merging of Destroyer Squadron Fourteen [1] and Cruiser Destroyer Readiness Support Detachment Mayport. CNSG-SE's roots thus go back to the establishment of the original DESRON Fourteen in 1920.
In January 2004 The Navy decided to relocate U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (USNAVSO) from Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, to Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Since the Navy had to close Naval Station Roosevelt Roads by 31 March 2004, relocation of USNAVSO was a high priority.
