Four Peaks Brewing Co. is an Arizona brewery that was founded by Andy Ingram, Jim Scussel, and Randy Schultz in 1995 and opened to the public on December 11, 1996. The company is headquartered in the historic former Borden Co. Creamery and Ice Factory on 8th Street in Tempe, Arizona, about one-half mile (800 m) east of the campus of Arizona State University.
Prior to 1964, public accommodations in Phoenix and Arizona were segregated: African Americans were not allowed to stay in the hotels in downtown Phoenix. The structure, which is listed in the National register of Historic Places ref. number 95001081, is the only known surviving African-American boarding house in Phoenix.
The Arizona Biltmore is a historic resort located in Phoenix near 24th Street and Camelback Road. Designed by Albert Chase McArthur, it opened on February 23, 1929, as part of the Biltmore Hotel chain. Actors Clark Gable and Carole Lombard often stayed there and the Tequila sunrise cocktail was invented there. It is part of LXR Hotels & Resorts.
It was only later that the brewery was established in Phoenix, attributed to its favourable climatic conditions, strategic location for island-wide product distribution, and water supply. Thus, the beer was named after the city’s rich history, drawing inspiration from both the mythical bird and the Phoenician palms.
