A neutralization reaction is a type of double replacement reaction. A neutralization reaction occurs when an acid reacts with an equal amount of a base. This reaction usually produces a salt. One example, hydrochloric acid reacts with disodium iron tetracarbonyl to produce the iron dihydride:
In logic, a rule of replacement [1] [2] [3] is a transformation rule that may be applied to only a particular segment of an expression. A logical system may be constructed so that it uses either axioms, rules of inference, or both as transformation rules for logical expressions in the system. Whereas a rule of inference is always applied to a ...

A salt composed of more than one different cation or anion, or which upon hydrolysis forms two different cations and anions. 2. A salt that is a molecular combination of two other salts. In mathematics, a change of variables is a basic technique used to simplify problems in which the original variables are replaced with functions of other variables. The intent is that when expressed in new variables, the problem may become simpler, or equivalent to a better understood problem.
Displacement is the shift in location when an object in motion changes from one position to another. [2] For motion over a given interval of time, the displacement divided by the length of the time interval defines the average velocity (a vector), whose magnitude is the average speed (a scalar quantity).
Particle displacement, a measurement of distance of the movement of a particle in a medium as it transmits a wave (represented in mathematics by the lower-case Greek letter ξ) Displacement field (mechanics) , an assignment of displacement vectors for all points in a body that is displaced from one state to another

To me at least, "double replacement" is the most obscure. The most contemporary term used is "salt metathesis". I've heard of "double displacement", but it's supposedly as deprecated as "double decomposition". I'm aware that this page was listed by a bot in WT:CHEMISTRY but I am concerned that it did not get enough discussion. I'll ask the ...
