The immediate area around Camp Humphreys is mostly agricultural and consists mainly of rice fields. There are some rolling hills in the vicinity, but for the most part the elevations are less than 150 feet (46 m). There is a small mountain range about seven miles south of Camp Humphreys, with peaks reaching 958 feet in elevation.
In 1921, the Middle Tennessee Council's first summer camp was held at the original Boxwell Reservation, near Linton and is now lost to history. [clarification needed] Nine years later, camp was held at a facility called as the Narrows of the Harpeth. In the 1950s and early 1960s, this camp was operated for African American troops.

527th MI BN was activated at Camp Humphreys, Korea, and assigned to 501st Military Intelligence Brigade. Running 24-hour operations, 527th Military Intelligence Battalion plays a vital role in providing the vigilance required to insure the security of the Republic of Korea.
