The township is in northwestern Muskegon County, bordered to the west by Lake Michigan and to the north by its inlet White Lake and the city of Whitehall.According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 38.2 square miles (99 km 2), of which 36.3 square miles (94 km 2) are land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km 2), or 5.17%, are water.
