Jay Peak Resort is an American ski resort located on Jay Peak in the northern Green Mountains, between Jay, Vermont and Montgomery Center, Vermont. Its vertical drop of 2,153 feet (656 m) is the eighth largest in New England and the fifth largest in Vermont. [ 1 ]
Most of the mountain is in Jay State Forest. The mountain is named for the town of Jay, Vermont, in which much of the mountain except the peak area itself is located. The town of Jay is in turn named for John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States and a local landholder. Jay Peak is part of the northern Green Mountains.
In May 2012, Burke Mountain Resort was purchased by the owners of nearby Jay Peak Resort. [1] The new ownership has improved Burke's snow-making capability. Burke Mountain Resort is a ski in/ski out resort that is positioned at the midway point of the mountain. The hotel has 116 rooms, and is open year-round.

Burke Mountain Resort has 55 ski trails and 15 glades with 270 acres (110 ha) skiable of terrain and over 100 acres (40 ha) of glades. Among the 55 trails, 11% are designated "Green Circle" (Beginner trails), 47% are "Blue Square" (Intermediate), 33% are "Black Diamond" (Advanced), and 9% are "Double Black Diamond" (Expert).
The forest is divided into two tracts, Black Falls (3,764 acres (15.23 km 2)) and Big Jay (1,573 acres (6.37 km 2)), which features Jay Peak and Jay Peak Resort. Activities include hiking on the Long Trail and skiing at Jay Peak Resort.
