The college was established in 1974 by Diarmuid Hegarty and incorporated in 1978 as the Business and Accounting Training (BAT).Originally located on Morehampton Road, in 1991 the Business and Accounting College moved from Milltown Park, Ranelagh, to the Griffith Barracks site and changed its name to Griffith College Dublin.
In 1992, he became president of Griffith College Ireland. From 1999 to 2006, he served as a board member of Griffith College Karachi. As president of Griffith College, Hegarty has been involved in promoting the Bologna Process for a Europe-wide Higher Education Network. [5] In 2018 he was elected to the Council of Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
The college was established in 2006 when the Mid West Business Institute was acquired by Griffith College Dublin. The college runs full-time and part-time courses in accountancy, business, law, engineering, computing, and information technology, and has a range of part-time courses available.
