Initially this was BBC Radio 2 until the early 1990s when BBC World Service was the overnight filler and by the end of the 1990s this had become BBC Radio 5 Live. Only BBC Radio London broadcasts a 24-hour service. As with BBC Local Radio, the BBC's national radio stations also carried a UK-wide station during downtime.
