Lahaina, Lāhainā (Hawaiian: Lahaina, Hawaiian: [ləˈhɐjnə], / l ə ˈ h aɪ n ə /, old var. Lāhainā) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. On the northwest coast of the island of Maui , it encompasses Lahaina town and the Kaanapali and Kapalua beach resorts.
Lāhainā Harbor was a port of choice for whaling vessels from around the world between 1820 and 1860. King Kamehameha III established a first lighthouse there in 1840, which was Hawaiʻi's first. A second and then a third lighthouse were established in 1866. Due to its deficiency, a replacement lighthouse was built in 1905.
