The consolidated Prairie Central district was created in 1985 by merging three districts. Those three districts' high schools were Fairbury Cropsey High School, Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School, and Chatsworth High School.

The offices of the Prairie Central Consolidated School District are located in Fairbury, as is the district's only high school, Prairie Central High School. High school graduates who attend community college do so at Heartland Community College, either in Pontiac or Normal.
Prairie Central finished with a 6-5 record. As a group, the seniors saw the varsity program go 25-9 over their final three seasons. They won at least one playoff game each year.
