Gliese 581c / ˈ ɡ l iː z ə / (Gl 581c or GJ 581c) is an exoplanet orbiting within the Gliese 581 system. It is the second planet discovered in the system and the third in order from the star. With a mass about 6.8 times that of the Earth, it is classified as a super-Earth (a category of planets with masses greater than Earth's up to ten ...

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581

Gliese 581 (/ ˈ ɡ l iː z ə /) is a red dwarf star of spectral type M3V which hosts a planetary system, 20.5 light-years (6.3 parsecs) away from Earth in the constellation Libra. Its estimated mass is about a third of that of the Sun, and it is the 101st closest known star system to the Sun. [15] Gliese 581 is one of the oldest, least active ...

Gliese 581 d looks an even better candidate. The orbital period was originally estimated at 83 days and has now been revised to 66 days. [24] This was announced along with another new world, Gliese 581 e, which is next to twice the mass of Earth but too close to its sun for liquid water. In May 2011, a new study suggested that the planet might ...

A G-type star slightly more massive than the Sun. [69] Planet g remains unconfirmed. [71] Planet b orbits in the habitable zone, but it and planet c are massive enough to be brown dwarfs.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stéphane_Udry

He and his team, in 2007, discovered a possibly terrestrial planet in the habitable zone of the Gliese 581 planetary system, approximately 20 light years away in the constellation Libra. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] He also led the observational team that discovered HD 85512 b , another most promisingly habitable exoplanet.

  7. Gliese 581d - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581d

The motion of the parent star indicates a minimum mass for Gliese 581d of 5.6 Earth masses (earlier analyses gave higher values). [3] Dynamical simulations of the Gliese 581 system assuming that the orbits of the three planets are coplanar show that the system becomes unstable if the masses of the planets exceed 1.6–2 times the minimum values.

  9. Talk:Gliese 581 - Wikipedia

The table on the Gliese 581 page gives a very high eccentricity of 0.3 for c's orbit; the page for Gliese 581 c gives eccentricity 0. Eccentricity 0.3 for a semimajor axis 0x 0.073 AU puts perihelion at about 0.039 AU if I got my math right; this is inside the orbit of Gliese 581 b, so I'm guessing that Gliese 581 c is more right than this page.
