SUBJECT: GM Drive by Wire Throttle Body Cleaning Procedure and Relearn Procedures-----I have been receiving a lot of calls at the Tech Support Line about proper throttle body cleaning procedures on various vehicles. Please find the first in a series of Manufacturer’s Recommended Procedures.
Purchased part and did it myself. I found a relearn procedure online that states to monitor RPM, idle vehicle for 3 minutes, turn off for 60 sec, and idle again for another 3 minutes and turn off again for another 60 sec and do a couple drive cycles and all will be well. For my vehicle, is this the proper way to relearn throttle body to ECM.

So, I decided to go and clean the TB which was pretty dirty. During the relearn procedure I accidentally hit the gas and the RPM shot up to 3000. And now I can't get a normal idle. I disconnected the battery for a while to maybe get reset... no luck. Do you think the TB is malfunctioning because of the cleaning? I do have a new TB on the way ...
The car ran fine, but I had a little rough idle and what not, so I decided to clean the throttle body! Boy did it need it! Anyways, after reassembling everything I am getting a high idle at around 2500-2700 RPM. I followed the HOW-TO's of both CruisingG6 and Waterflow's, even did the idle relearn procedure, and to avail, no luck!

The TPS in the throttle body is a more common failure, fortunately it is now available separate from the TB itself. Rockauto has them fairly cheap. 1978 Caprice Classic Landau

A few months ago during an oil change one of the mechanics somehow cut a wire in the group of wires near the yellow dipstick area, when I tried to leave I started my car and it said engine power reduced, so I shut it off, they fixed the wire quickly and I was on my way.
