The Bhil Meena (also spelled Bhil Mina) are a tribal group found in the state of Rajasthan, India. [5] Mainly they are mixed tribe of tribal Meenas and Bhils. [6]
The population of Rajasthan in 2011 Census of India was 68,548,437 Of this 9,238,534 persons belong to one of the Scheduled Tribes (STs) constituting 13.48 per cent of the total population of the state. The state has registered 30.2 per cent decadal growth in the Scheduled Tribe population between 2001-2011.
The community derives its name from the word nata, which means widow remarriage in Hindi.This practice, initially adopted by a group of Chauhan Rajputs changing their surnames from Chouhan To Chadana in Marwar, Rajasthan, and this led to their separation from the wider Rajput community, which disallows widow remarriage.
Jats are traditionally an agricultural caste and are listed under Other Backward Class of Rajasthan State. In east Rajasthan, Bharatpur [33] and Dholpur, [34] were ruled by Jat rulers.
