Embers was formed in 2004 by Kelly Nelson on bass and vocals, Steven DeCaprio on guitar, and Jerry Buchanan on drums. Kelly and Steve are the former members of the political hardcore/metal band, Lesser of Two, formed in 1990 and dissolved in 2002.
Eventually, Reese broke away and headed his own band, the Embers, after internal arguments within The Counts polarized band members. Former Counts bands mates Googie Dirmeyer and Jerry Bright returned to The Embers. Under the name the Royal Lancers, the group evolved for two years, and Reese soon found his calling as a lead guitarist in El Paso.
The Flaming Ember was an American blue-eyed soul band from Detroit, Michigan, United States, who found commercial success starting in the late 1960s. [1] The group originally formed in Detroit in 1964. [1] At that time they were known as The Flaming Embers, [1] named for a local Detroit restaurant.
The Embers were formed by friends late in 2005 and aimed to compete in the National Campus Band Competition (NCBC). Duncan Ewington of Sauce Magazine caught their performance at the Art School Ball of the University of Tasmania in Hobart in December; he described how, "The Embers were tight and original – I loved the panpipes and the charango guitar, violin and stand-up-bass – what a combo."
In 2008, the original line up of the band reformed to play two concerts, then a line up of Carroll, Payne and Nick Cash resumed touring. In 2009, a new single "International Financial Crisis" (a re-write of "Offshore Banking Business") was released, recorded by Tesco, Carroll, Payne and Bennett, with artwork by the original Members' album sleeve designer, Malcolm Garrett.
The band supported Kasabian at Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide as part of Kasabian's July 2010 Australian Tour, [20] before travelling to Melbourne to launch their album on the east coast of Australia at The Tote in Collingwood. Will Stoker and the Embers supported The Charlatans for the last gig of the later band's 2010 Australian Tour.
The band has been performing non-stop since. The current version of the band is led by Jules Alexander and Jim Yester, as well as Del Ramos, brother of Larry Ramos, and Jordan Cole, son of Brian Cole. During the 1970s and 80s, the band went through numerous line-up changes, with, at one point, only one original member in the band.
The future members of The Band first played together as the Hawks, the backing group for Toronto-based rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins. Levon Helm began playing with the group in 1957, then became their fulltime drummer after graduating from high school in 1958.
