The National Beta Club (often called "Beta Club" or simply "Beta") is an International honor society for 4th through 12th-grade students.Its purpose is to promote academic achievement, character, leadership, and service among elementary and secondary school students.

Other honor societies were established a century later, including Tau Beta Pi for engineering (1885), Sigma Xi for scientific research (1886), and Phi Kappa Phi for all disciplines (1897). Mortar Board was established in 1918 and was the first national honor society for women who were college seniors.

Beta Delta (ΒΔ) was founded in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1926. Gamma Theta ( ΓΘ ) was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at Baton Rouge High School in 1931. Theta Kappa Sigma ( ΘΚΣ ) founded in 1932 at the Stamford Collegiate Institute (high school) in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
