Lincoln's stay at the Tallman house is the only recorded time he stayed in a Wisconsin home. [4] [9] The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1970. [2] It received a Preservation Award from the Victorian Society in America in 1995. [10] It is now owned by the city of Janesville.
Rock County was created as a territorial county on December 7, 1836, from Milwaukee County and fully organized February 19, 1839. [3] The county is named for the Rock River , which bisects the county from north to south.
On June 4, 2016 it was relocated from the Rock County fairgrounds to the campus of the Rock County Historical Society through the financial support of local businessman Bob Kimball and an anonymous donor. The school was placed on the NRHP because it is the best-preserved structure connected to Frances Willard's time in Wisconsin.
