Zechariah 6 is the sixth of the 14 chapters in the Book of Zechariah in the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. [1] [2] [3] This book contains the prophecies attributed to the prophet Zechariah. In the Hebrew Bible it is part of the Book of the Twelve Minor Prophets. [4]
One of the three prophets from the post-exilic period, Zechariah's prophecies took place during the reign of Darius the Great. [1]Chapters 1–8 of the book are contemporary with the prophecies of Haggai, [2] while chapters 9–14 (often termed Second Zechariah) are thought to have been written much later—in the 5th century, during the late Persian or early Ptolemaic period. [3]
This chapter is a part of a section (so-called "Second Zechariah") consisting of Zechariah 9–14. [5] Verses 1–6 may be seen as continuous with chapter 12 , [ 6 ] whereas verses 7–9 form a separate "invocation", [ 7 ] forming a three-section "entity" with 14:1-21 .

Schilder notes that Zechariah's payment indicates an assessment of his worth, as well as his dismissal. [19] (p 74) In Exodus 21:32, 30 pieces of silver was the price of a slave, so while Zechariah calls the amount a "handsome price" (Zechariah 11:13), this could be sarcasm. Webb, however, calls it as a "considerable sum of money". [20]

The Septuagint and Vulgate versions of Zechariah 6:5 refers to "the four winds of heaven", although the King James Version and many other translations refer to "the four spirits of the heavens".
