Fuerteventura (Spanish: [ˌfweɾteβenˈtuɾa] ⓘ) is one of the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, geographically part of Macaronesia, and politically part of Spain. It is located 97 km (60 mi) away from the coast of North Africa. The island was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 2009.

Beach at Ajuy. Ajuy is a small remote fishing village on the west coast of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.It is part of the municipality Pájara.Not far from Ajuy is where the Norman Jean de Béthencourt landed in 1402 to conquer the island for the Spanish crown.
The constituency was created as per the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands of 1982 and was first contested in the 1983 regional election.The Statute provides for the seven main islands in the Canarian archipelago—El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote and Tenerife—to be established as multi-member districts in the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
The constituency was created as per the Political Reform Act 1977 and was first contested in the 1977 general election.The Act provided for the provinces of Spain to be established as multi-member districts in the Senate of Spain, [2] with this regulation being maintained under the Spanish Constitution of 1978.
