The Spanish River is a river in Algoma District, Sudbury District and Greater Sudbury in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. [2] It flows 338 kilometres (210 mi) [1] in a southerly direction from its headwaters at Spanish Lake (west branch) and Duke Lake (east branch) to its mouth at the North Channel of Lake Huron just outside the community of Spanish.
Fishing ranchos were fishing stations located along the coast of Southwest Florida used by Spanish Cuban fishermen in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Spanish fished the waters along the coast of Florida in the late fall and winter of each year, salting the fish, and then carrying the cured fish to Havana by the beginning of Lent.
Spanish River Park has 95 acres of inland deciduous woods plus the beach. There's a boat dock, gazebos for picnics, a playground, and nature trails perfect for bird-watching, hiking, and more.
It is a non-operating park, meaning that there are no facilities or services. Permitted activities include boating, canoeing, hiking, fishing, hunting, swimming, and backcountry camping, as well as dogsledding, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing in the winter. [2] There is one commercial resort on De Lesseps Lake and a lodge on Hooker Lake. [4]
The River aux Sables Provincial Park protects the entire river and its banks with the exception of some private lands near the town of Massey. It was established in 2006 and is intended to provide recreational paddling opportunities. The park area is also popular for fishing, hunting, and camping. [1] [3]
