Midland Independent School District is a public school district in Midland, Texas. Midland ISD contains 41 campuses. It includes the portions of Midland and Odessa in Midland County. [2] Led by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephanie D. Howard, over 26,000 students are spread out amongst the various campuses.
The school originally opened its doors in 1961, seven years before the city’s high schools integrated. [4] In October 2020, the Midland school board voted to rename the school "Legacy High School". [5]

Midland was established in June 1881 as Midway Station, on the Texas and Pacific Railway.Its name came from its central location between Fort Worth and El Paso, but because there were already other towns in Texas named Midway, the city changed its name to Midland in January 1884 when it was granted its first post office.
