The pilot episodes introduce five of the show's six main teenage ninja characters named Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane and Nya and their wise master, Sensei Wu that would remain the central characters of the series. Kai recreates the Golden Weapons to help the team fight the Oni. In the midst of the battle, Cole, who has survived the darkness, returns to the monastery as well. The Ninja, Wu and Garmadon eventually use the Tornado of Creation to defeat the Oni, but this causes Lloyd to pass out.
Wu explains to Cole the teaching of the Spinjitzu Burst, who then finds and operates a mech to return the group to the surface. [ N 10 ] Nya and Kai lead the tribes to a peace meeting, but are ambushed by the undead dragon, Grief-Bringer, who forces the tribes to flee into a Strong-Cave.
Lord Garmadon uses his Mega Weapon to create a time portal, hoping to prevent the formation of the Ninja team. The Ninja follow him as he goes back in time to the day Kai met Sensei Wu. After failing to alter the timeline by stopping Nya's kidnapping, Garmadon teams up with his past self and amboushes the past Kai in the Fire Temple.
Morro ends up taking the scroll with the help of his ally, Soul Archer, whom Ronin is indebted to, and uses the scroll to learn Airjitzu. Ronin instead gives the Ninja weapons that can kill ghosts. Meanwhile, Sensei Wu trains Nya to control water, and discovers that her weakness is fear of being weak and helpless.
