South Jordan is a city in south central Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, 18 miles (29 km) south of Salt Lake City.Part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, the city lies in the Salt Lake Valley along the banks of the Jordan River between the 10,000-foot (3,000 m) Oquirrh Mountains and the 11,000-foot (3,400 m) Wasatch Mountains.
The largest city is the state's capital of Salt Lake City with a population of 194,188, and the former coal mining town of Scofield is the smallest town with 15 people. [ 1 ] In 2015, a new form of local government, the metro township, was created. [ 7 ]
The Utah state legislature gave South Jordan special tax powers and created a Housing and Transit Reinvestment Zone centered around Daybreak. Thousands of high-density residences will be built in and around Daybreak. Plans are in place to expand and improve mass transit lines serving the southwest neck of Salt Lake County. [10]
