The club's final match was a 4–0 defeat to Brechin City in the Forfarshire Cup on 3 January 1921, [6] and two months later the club gave up the hopeless struggle, donating the £10 balance in its account equally between Brechin City and Montrose. [7] The club was, in effect, replaced in 1922 by Arbroath Athletic, which was similarly unsuccessful.

In the 1924–25 Scottish Cup the club lost at Kilmarnock; [13] in the 1926–27 Scottish Cup it lost 7–0 at home to Dundee United.
