The title of this franchise is derived from the Arabic word Sijjin (سِجِّين) meaning either a book that lists the names of the damned or a prison, located in the bottom of hell. [4] However, the word's origin is unknown. It appears in the Qur'an in Surah 83:7–9. A similar word appears in 21:104 often translated as 'scroll'. [5]

With the first translation of the Kural text into Telugu made in 1877, Telugu has seen a series of translations before the turn of the 20th century. [1] The first translation was titled Trivarga Dipika made by Venkatrama Srividyanandaswami of the Kanuparti family, who presented it with elaborate notes. [2]

Vavilikolanu Subba Rao or Andhra Valmiki or Vaasu Daasa Swami (23 January 1863 – 1 August 1939) was a Sanskrit scholar and a Telugu poet, often known by the epithet Andhra Valmiki. He was first Telugu scholar to translate Sanskrit version of Valmiki Ramayana into Telugu.
