NR Group is an Indian business group which comprises six companies in various businesses such as essential oils, fragrances, incense, and electronics.It is based in Mysore, and was established in 1948 by N. Ranga Rao as Mysore Products and General Trading Company, which later became N. Ranga Rao & Sons.

The first Indian biotechnology company to be established was Biocon, which was founded by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw in 1978. [3] The Indian biotechnology industry formally began in 1986 with the establishment of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) by the Ministry of Science and Technology. [4]
Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi was incorporated as public limited company in 1990 under The Companies Act, 1956. [1] The consortium is promoted by the Department of Biotechnology , Government of India and financed by the All India Financial Institutions and some corporate sectors. [ 2 ]
In December 2015, the Department of Biotechnology launched the National Biotechnology Development Strategy 2015–2020 programme. The stated aim of the programme is to intensify research in the fields of vaccines, humane genome, infectious and chronic diseases, crop science, animal agriculture and aquaculture, food and nutrition, environmental management and technologies for clean energy.

Laurus Bio is the company's biotechnology subsidiary. Laurus Labs entered the biotechnology sector in 2020, by acquiring the Indian biotech company, Richcore. [20] Post the acquisition, Richcore was renamed to Laurus Bio Pvt Ltd, and became a subsidiary of Laurus Labs. [20]
