From the chart it looks like 9" to 11" is the sweet spot for the 300 blk. You are still adding 40 to 50 fps up till around 11". From 11" to 15" its around 30 fps and closer to 20 fps after 16". 16" is about the max, even though their are small gains after that. Anything less than 9 you are giving up a good bit.
I went with a 8 inch for my 300. The attraction of having a rifle the same length as a 16" Carbine that was supressed was simply too great. An 8" gets you 90% of the energy of a 16" 556. 9" gets you 94%. The new Barnes black tip expands to 375 yds from an 8" barrel. Posted: 6/16/2012 6:42:30 AM EST. [#2]
I'm not sure what the charts called, ballistic drop chart perhaps, but I'm looking for the ballistic drop chart for Sig Sauer .300 Blackout 220 gr Sierra Match King Elite Match Grade subsonic ammo. I'd like to see what the drop is at 125 and 150 yards. I searched online but couldn't find it.
As an example, for a given round of standard supersonic 300 blackout (no reload or special stuff), how far does the round go before dropping with a 6 inch, 8 inch, 10 inch, 16 inch, 20 inch barrel and so forth. What is the force of the bullet. If there is a link please let me know.
Question for the hive about zeroing 300 blackout. I will primarily be shooting 300 BLK subs with a suppressor. Looking at a few ballistic tables I can see the vast difference in trajectories between supers and sub. Right now, my only can is a pistol can (rugged obsidian 9) which is rated to 300 subs. So primarily going to be shooting subs.
Weather was 27 deg F - I believe the fps will pick up a bit in the summertime. Chime in if you've got experience on how much the fps will rise due to temps. Weapon - 300 blk 9" barrel with a suppressor. A1680/Hornady 190 gr sub-x. 11.5 gr / 1021 ave fps. 12.0 gr / 1107 ave fps. CFE BLK. 12.0 gr / 1028 ave fps. 12.5 gr / 1052 ave fps.
For subs 5 mils of hold overs at 10X only gets out to about 200 yards. On my 8” AR with a red dot I co-witness Magpul LR Pro rear sight and zero supers at 50/180ish. The 200-600 settings on the rear sight get out to about 450. For subs the 350 setting starts at about 50 and the 600 setting gets to about 250.
Quoted: 300blk is a jack of all trades, master of none. The legend looks like it will be better at subs, but either you have to buy a new suppressor, or use a pistol suppressor and give up supersonic suppressed. Seems a little less interchangeable with 556 as well, have to mod your mags. Legend will be good at getting around some hunting laws.
Sounds like it isn't too far off my predictions in the ballistics chart in terms of relationship between subs and supers, which is a good sanity check too. Sounds like with a little fine tuning and bring the super zero down a bit at 25yds, you will have a pretty practical 25yd zero for subs and supers, and still a useable trajectory at 100yds
Looking up handloading data on Hodgdon's site shows that performance of the 300 Blackout is far below that of a 30-30. 150grn bullet velocities top out at 1,9320fps, 130grn bullet velocities top out at 2,213fps, and it takes going down to a 110grn bullet to reach 150grn 30-30 velocities of 2,390fps. The performance appears to be nothing like ...
