The Carters contains abundant invertebrate fossils, including corals, stromatoporoids, brachiopods and bryozoans, mollusk (gastropods, bivalves and orthoconic cephalopods) and trilobites. Trace fossils also occur.

[1] It is a sedimentary sandy marl deposit, Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) in age, about 70 million years old.
