Oxnard High School was established in 1902 as the first public high school in the city of Oxnard (the private Santa Clara High School opened the year before). The original campus, a 35-acre (14 ha) site on Fifth Street west of downtown, [5] [6] served all of the Oxnard Plain and the Conejo Valley until 1956 when Adolfo Camarillo High School opened.

Concerns soon arose that the new school shared its name with a brand of Mexican beer, so in 1999 the school board renamed the campus to Pacifica High School. The 50-acre (20 ha) campus was designed to accommodate up to 2,250 students, but by the 2018–19 school year the student population exceeded 3,000. [ 4 ]

The district serves K–8 students in the northeast portion of the city of Oxnard and the unincorporated communities of El Rio and Nyeland Acres. Rio feeds into the Oxnard Union High School District, specifically Rio Mesa and Pacifica high schools.
