Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, and elects U.S. senators to class 1 and class 3.Its current U.S. senator is Republican Bernie Moreno (serving since 2025). Not counting Vermont and Maine, where independents have caucused with the Democrats since 2001 and 2013, Ohio had the longest current split delegation, having had two senators from the opposite parties from 2007 until 2025.
The 14th congressional district of Ohio is in the far northeast corner of the state, bordering Lake Erie and Pennsylvania.
