The Back Mountain is a region and former census-designated place (CDP) in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is near the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre . The population was 33,551 as of 2016.
It is part of the Back Mountain, a 118 square miles (310 km 2) region in northern Luzerne County. The borough is named after the lake, its principal feature, which in turn was named after Benjamin Harvey, a local settler. Harvey was a member of the Sons of Liberty, an eminent colonial-era group that fought against Great Britain's Stamp Act of 1765

In 1842, Wyoming County was formed and the county line cut off a portion of Lake Township, which was given back to Monroe Township (now in Wyoming County). [3] The Harveys Lake and Towanda Branch of the Lehigh Valley Railroad was built during the late 1800s. It ran directly from Wilkes-Barre to Harveys Lake.

Wright is part of the Mountain Top region of Luzerne County. The township is densely populated in the western half. The southern and eastern portions of Wright are made up of thick forests. The community's main business district is located in the northern and central portions of Wright. PA 309 runs north to south through the heart of the township.
