Dakshineswar Kali Temple or Dakshineswar Kalibari is a Hindu navaratna temple in Dakshineswar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River , the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini (Kali), a form of Mahadevi or Parashakti Adya Kali, otherwise known as Adishakti Kalika. [ 1 ]
Dakshineswar gets its name from the Sanskrit name the Dakṣiṇeśvara of Shiva. The temple of Shiva is located around 1.5 km north of the famous Kali temple, at the southern part of Ariadaha. [2] The temple is very important to the Shiva devotees and the Lingam is believed to be Svayambhu.
Since 1918, the school was a branch centre of the Ramakrishna Mission. On 9 August 1963, it was transferred to Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar and thus became a branch centre of that organization (i.e., Ramakrishna Sarada Mission; the school's present name is "Ramkrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls' School").
