Peter Mark Roget was born in Broad Street, Soho, London, the son of Jean (John) Roget (1751–1783), a Genevan cleric born to French parents, and Catherine "Kitty" Romilly, the sister of British politician, abolitionist, and legal reformer Sir Samuel Romilly. His parents were French Huguenots.
I'm not sure how likely it is that Roget used the French pronunciation in 18th/19th century England. However, according to the Q&A section on [2] (retrieved 2009-10-08), the family nowadays does use the French pronunciation.
