Ying County or Yingxian (simplified Chinese: 应县; traditional Chinese: 應縣; pinyin: Yìng Xiàn) is a county in the north of Shanxi province, China. It is the easternmost county-level division of the prefecture-level city of Shuozhou .
The ensemble includes various temples, pagodas, and academies dating back as far as the Han Dynasty. Among these, the Shaolin Temple, often credited as the birthplace of Zen Buddhism and Shaolin martial arts. Other notable components include the Songyue Pagoda, one of the oldest brick pagodas in China, and the Observatory of Dengfeng.1305

While it is unclear as to the exact date of its construction, it was either built during the Northern Wei dynasty (386–534) or Northern Qi dynasty (550–577) and possibly contains the tomb of the founder of the Foguang Temple.
