Arizona State University Tempe campus is the main campus of Arizona State University, and the largest of the five campuses [4] that comprise the university. The campus lies in the heart of Tempe, Arizona, about eight miles (13 km) east of downtown Phoenix. The campus is considered urban, and is approximately 642 acres (2.6 km 2) in size.
In May 2009, ASU's education programs underwent a renaming and reorganization. The Mary Lou Fulton College of Education, which was ASU's original college of education, became the Mary Lou Fulton Institute and Graduate School of Education.[2] This new school focused solely on graduate-level programs and research.

In 1963, ASU awarded its first doctoral degrees to four students, one of whom, Jesse W. Jones, was the first Chemistry PhD of ASU and the first African American to earn a PhD at ASU. [9] Jones went on to teach chemistry at Baylor University for over 30 years. [10] [11]
