After over three years of recording, Def Leppard's fourth album, Hysteria, was released on 3 August 1987. One of the first singles from the album, "Animal", became the band's first Top 10 hit in the UK, reaching No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart. After three years, Def Leppard released Euphoria, which is the band's last certified album by the RIAA, CRIA, and BPI. At the start of the 21st century, the band released X. Four years later, Def Leppard released the studio/cover album, Yeah!, which included covers by Thin Lizzy and The Kinks.
Def Leppard recorded On Through the Night and High 'n' Dry as the five-piece of Savage, Willis, Elliott, Clark, and Allen before Pete Willis was fired in July 1982. Phil Collen of Girl replaced Willis, and the band went on to the most commercially successful period of their career, the releases of Pyromania and Hysteria .
Recorded in early 1981, Def Leppard released High 'n' Dry in July, with two singles "Let it Go" and "Bringin' On the Heartbreak". The band spend the next year touring in support of High 'n' Dry and began recording tracks for a third album.
