Led by fourth-year head coach Mike Mahoney, the Racers compiled an overall record of 2–9, with a mark of 1–5 in conference play, and finished sixth in the OVC.

Following the 2011 season, Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman was selected as a Third-Team AP All-American, becoming the first Racer quarterback in history to earn All-America honors.
