General Cinema Corporation, also known as General Cinema, GCC, or General Cinema Theatres, was a chain of movie theaters in the United States. At its peak, the company operated about 1,500 screens, [1] some of which were among the first theaters certified by THX. The company operated for approximately 67 years, from 1935 until 2002.
Upon opening for business on October 1, 1987, the mall had more than 50 spaces leased. [7] Over 25 stores joined the mall by 1989, including a 100,000-square-foot (9,300 m 2) expansion consisting of the movie theater and a fifth anchor store, Sears, which opened that October. In 1997, Woolworths closed their store at the mall. In 1998, Kaufmann's was added to the mall as an anchor, originally located at the Euclid Square Mall in Euclid, Ohio, the anchor changes included the expansion of the Loews Theater from a 10-screen theater to a 20-screen theater, and the addition a junior-anchor, Barnes & Noble. From 1967 to 2004, a five-screen cinema operated in the Dillard's wing of the mall. General Cinema opened the Parmatown Theater with two screens, which was unheard of at the time. A third screen opened in the 1970s, along with two more in the 1980s. General Cinema closed the theater in 2001.
