Vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) is a condition affecting the vocal cords. [1] It is characterized by abnormal closure of the vocal folds, which can result in significant difficulties and distress during breathing, particularly during inhalation.
Treatment is often supportive in nature, and depends on the severity and type of laryngitis (acute or chronic). [1] General measures to relieve symptoms of laryngitis include behavior modification, hydration, and humidification. [1] Vocal hygiene (care of the voice) is very important to relieve symptoms of laryngitis.
Laryngospasm is an uncontrolled or involuntary muscular contraction of the vocal folds. [1] It may be triggered when the vocal cords or the area of the trachea below the vocal folds detects the entry of water, mucus, blood, or other substance.

Extensive non-respiratory injury can also cause one to cough up blood. Cardiac causes like congestive heart failure and mitral stenosis should be ruled ...
Spasmodic dysphonia, also known as laryngeal dystonia, is a disorder in which the muscles that generate a person's voice go into periods of spasm. [1] [2] This results in breaks or interruptions in the voice, often every few sentences, which can make a person difficult to understand. [1]
Other symptoms may include pain when swallowing, a hoarse voice, enlarged lymph nodes ("glands") around the collarbone, a dry cough, and possibly coughing up or vomiting blood. [ 1 ] The two main sub-types of the disease are esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (often abbreviated to ESCC), [ 9 ] which is more common in the developing world , and ...
