The first two counties, Adams County and Pickering County (renamed Jefferson County later), were established in 1799 in the Mississippi Territory. [1] 14 counties, all in the southwest, were created before the Mississippi Territory became a state in 1817. [1] The last county created was Humphreys County in 1918. [2]
Wall Doxey State Park is one of the original state parks built in Mississippi in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. [4] [5] Originally known as Spring Lake, the park was the eighth park in Mississippi created by the CCC. The CCC began work 1935; the park opened in 1938.

Roosevelt State Park is a public recreation area located off Interstate 20 on the southwest side of Morton, Mississippi. The state park surrounds 150-acre (61 ha) Shadow Lake at the western edge of Bienville National Forest, between Jackson and Meridian. It is managed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. [3]
