Cool Struttin ' is a studio album by the jazz pianist and composer Sonny Clark.It was released through Blue Note Records in August 1958. The recording was made on January 5, 1958 with a group for the session consisting of horn section Art Farmer and Jackie McLean, and Miles Davis Quintet rhythm section Philly Joe Jones and Paul Chambers.
Clark was born and raised in Herminie, Pennsylvania, a coal mining town east of Pittsburgh. [2] His parents were originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia. [2] His miner father, Emery Clark, died of a lung disease two weeks after Sonny was born. [2]
In 1976, Blue Note combined these three tracks with two outtakes recorded in early 1958 as part of the session for the Cool Struttin' LP (BLP 1588). The resulting LP was released in Japan as Sonny Clark Quintets (LNJ 70093). [2] The same five pieces were subsequently re-released on a 1983 Japanese LP titled Cool Struttin' Volume 2.

It was originally released in 1979 in Japan, as GXF 3056, featuring six tracks recorded in 1959 including an alternate take of "Royal Flush", a track that had appeared on the album Cool Struttin'.
