Alfa Laval AB is a Swedish company, founded in 1883 by Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm. The company started by providing centrifuges to dairies to be used to separate cream from milk. It now deals in the production of specialised products for heavy industry .
In 1991 Alfa-Laval was bought by Tetra Pak. In 1993 the division which produced dairy and farming machinery was split from Alfa Laval and named Alfa Laval Agri. Both companies became part of the Tetra Laval Group. In 2000 the Tetra Laval Group sold Alfa Laval, while Alfa Laval Agri was kept and renamed DeLaval after the company's founder.
Evaporators are often used to concentrate a solution. An example is the climbing/falling film plate evaporator, which is used to make condensed milk.. Similarly, reduction (cooking) is a process of evaporating liquids from a solution to produce a "reduced" food product, such as wine reduction.
However, with improper starting procedure the situation may progress to the point that the operator depletes the starter battery before successfully starting the engine and there is risk of battery or starter damage and excess wear due to these repeated unsuccessful attempts to start the engine.
Gustaf de Laval was born at Orsa in Dalarna in the Swedish de Laval Huguenot family (immigrated 1622 - Claude de Laval, soldier - knighted de Laval 1647). He enrolled at the Institute of Technology in Stockholm (later the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH) in 1863, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering in 1866, after which he ...
A de Laval nozzle (or convergent-divergent nozzle, CD nozzle or con-di nozzle) is a tube which is pinched in the middle, with a rapid convergence and gradual divergence. It is used to accelerate a compressible fluid to supersonic speeds in the axial (thrust) direction, by converting the thermal energy of the flow into kinetic energy .
Starting fluid is sprayed into the engine intake near the air filter, or into the carburetor bore or a spark plug hole of an engine to get added fuel to the combustion cylinder quickly. Using starting fluid to get the engine running faster avoids wear to starters and fatigue to one's arm with pull start engines, especially on rarely used machines.
A cold start can be difficult for an engine due to higher viscosity of oil and fuel in cold temperatures. Generally speaking, diesel engines have more difficulty starting at low outside temperatures than gasoline engines, and electric engines have the most problems. Diesel engines do not use spark plugs to ignite the air fuel mixture and rely ...
