The Holden HR range was released in April 1966, replacing the Holden HD series which had been in production since 1965. The CDP contains the unincorporated communities of Holden, Beebe , Frogtown , Sycamore , Diamond , and Davis , all in the valley of Copperas Mine Fork .

Mamie Thurman (1900–1932) was an American woman whose slain body was found and recovered on 22 Mine Road near Holden, West Virginia on June 22, 1932. The site is about 7 miles from Logan, West Virginia. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1900.
Repco also developed and built the Repco-Holden Formula 5000 engine for Formula 5000 racing.
