What's wrong with looking at your history through the browser? Index.dat is generally found in your user profile directory: \Location Settings\Temporary Internet Files. My EDB is 3GB with 170,000 items of email and documents indexed. Starting from scratch, it will take overnight (12 hours) to fully index. Do allow time.
