Fitzgerald is a city in and the county seat of Ben Hill County in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. [6] As of 2020, its population was 9,006. [ 7 ] It is the principal city of the Fitzgerald micropolitan statistical area , which includes all of Ben Hill and Irwin counties.

It then travels to the east toward Fitzgerald, concurrent with SR 112 for approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) before departing. The highway then goes through rural Turner and Irwin counties before an intersection with SR 125 just west of Fitzgerald. Once in Fitzgerald, SR 107 has an intersection with U.S. Route 129 (US 129) and US 319.

Ben Hill County was created from parts of Irwin and Wilcox counties in 1907, and Fitzgerald was selected as the county seat. [2]A bond was approved for the county courthouse by 1908, and Virginia architect Henry H. Huggins was selected as architect by the county commissioners from a group of fourteen proposals. [2]
The current library building was constructed to replace the old Carnegie library which for years was running out of space. In 1984, the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library opened nearby on North Main Street and members of the public helped to create a brigade line to pass the collection of 40,000 books from the old library to the new. Northside Hospital opened on July 6, 1970. [3] The hospital had 288 beds, 80 doctors, and around 400 employees. [4]The hospital is owned by the Hospital Authority of Fulton County.
